about the library
The Library, completed in 1893, was given to the town of Sharon by Maria Bissell Hotchkiss in memory of her late husband, Benjamin Berkeley Hotchkiss. Mrs. Hotchkiss, who also endowed the Hotchkiss School, chose Bruce Price as architect. Price also designed the Chateau Frontenac in Quebec and numerous buildings at Yale, Tuxedo Park and elsewhere.
This year, the building was selected by the American Institute of Architects as the most architecturally significant library in Litchfield County.
