about the library
|
The Library, completed in 1893, was given to the town of Sharon by Maria Bissell Hotchkiss in memory of her late husband, Benjamin Berkeley Hotchkiss. Mrs. Hotchkiss, who also endowed the Hotchkiss School, chose Bruce Price as architect. Price also designed the Chateau Frontenac in Quebec and numerous buildings at Yale, Tuxedo Park and elsewhere.
This year, the building was selected by the American Institute of Architects as the most architecturally significant library in Litchfield County. |
ABOUT THE GALA
The Hotchkiss Library of Sharon is pleased to announce our 12th Annual Gala Auction, taking place Saturday, November 2, from 5:30 - 7:30pm at LionRock Farm. It will feature a live and silent auction of gifts for pre-holiday shopping, with all proceeds going to the Hotchkiss Library of Sharon. In addition to bidding on wonderful items (for example, a private tour of the New York Public Library, leather goods from Lambertson Treux, or a dinner for 4 at Troutbeck), guests will enjoy cocktails, wine, hors d'oeuvres and live music. Tickets are $150 in advance and at the door.
